Sandwell Reading Festival

Over sixty students from our local family of Primary Schools attended a Poetry and Performance Workshop run by Roi Kwabena as part of the Sandwell Reading Festival. Roi’s workshop gave pupils a taste of Caribbean culture and music and also gave them some excellent ideas and inspiration for their Digital Anthology of poems . Oscar Stringer: Animation Workshop

A highlight of the term was a two-day animation course for teachers run by Oscar Stringer. This course was attended by delegates from the ICT Test Bed Schools, and it gave teachers an opportunity to work in collaboration to create short animations using istop Motion and the new Apple Macs in the CLC. Next term several of the schools plan to develop this work further with students back at their schools and also in the CLC using the Apple Mac Portable Classroom. Toolkit Training for Sandwell MFL Teachers
MFL Teachers from the Black Country attended an introductory session on using the MFL Toolkit which has been developed by the Learning Bank Content Creation team in collaboration with the Black Country 14-19 Pathfinder.
The Toolkit can be downloaded for free from the Black Country Pathfinder site. A free username and password is required from Pathfinder to access this. Click here for more photos |
MFL Best Practice Day: Starters and Plenaries

An Introduction to Creating Materials for the Interactive Whiteboard
This workshop was attended by delegates from four Sandwell Schools. In addition to considering best practice in the use of whiteboards, teachers had an opportunity to create an interactive learning tool using Power Point.

Making the Most of a Digital Camera Course for the Community
The Smethwick Grid for Learning in partnership with the PuBlic have been running a very successful course for the Community on making best use of a digital stills camera. This has proved to be a highly successful course and some participants have made use of the crèche facilities at the First Steps Nursery located in the CLC. |
Primary Languages Day 
A very successful Primary Language Day was run at the City Learning Centre by Mike Rauh AST for students transferring to Shireland Language College. Students had an opportunity to use a range of software created specifically for the Transition Programme by Richard West-Soley from the Shireland Learning Bank Content Creation Team. |
