The official opening of the Shireland CLC took place on Friday 17 th September at 4.00p.m. We were delighted that Doug Brown, Divisional Manager for the ICT in Schools Division at the DfES, was able to cut the ribbon for us, and that so many friends and colleagues were able to join us for this event. Visitors had an opportunity to go on a tour of the CLC and were able to gain a snapshot of some of the hardware and software available in the CLC and how it can be used to enhance subject teaching, engage learners and raise standards. A Virtual Visit to Paris
Year 9 students from Langley High School took part in a virtual visit to Paris & then created multi-media presentations in French. Students developed reading skills and cultural awareness by researching Paris web pages and webcams. The webcams enabled them to experience French life and culture live, including a visit to a French boulangerie. Students then created multi-media presentations in French, adding voice overs and delivered their presentations using the IWB. In a short space of time the students had created work of quality and worked hard on pronunciation to deliver their presentations confidently.
Creating a Digital Video in French or German
Year 9 students from St Michael's High School and Warley High School and College of Sport storyboarded, filmed and edit a 2 minute DV using iBooks and iMovie in French and German. The programme had four specific aims:
- to improve students' writing skills through storyboarding
- to develop students' confidence, pronunciation and fluency using iPods
- to encourage students to organise and structure their own learning
- to encourage team work and collaboration through the creation of a digital video in the target language
The teachers involved visited the CLC for training and pupils were introduced to the programme at school, where they revised grammatical structures and then created a script in German or French.
